What are Heat-Not-Burn Devices?
Heat-not-burn products are designed to provide the ritual of smoking without the combustion of tobacco. IQOS devices are electronic products that use specially designed tobacco sticks – such as IQOS ILUMA™ and TEREA™ tobacco sticks - that are heated rather than burnt, to deliver the authentic taste of tobacco. IQOS devices are therefore a combination of science, technology and vision.
Heat-not-burn devices, such as IQOS ILUMA, are powered by batteries and require regular charging. Once the device is fully charged and ready for use, a TEREA tobacco stick is inserted into the device holder. IQOS ILUMA’s new SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM™ is completely bladeless, with easy TEREA tobacco stick insertion. The metal heating element within the TEREA stick heats the tobacco using induction technology contained inside the device. So, with heat-not-burn devices such as IQOS ILUMA, the tobacco is heated, instead of being burned, significantly reducing the harmful toxins found in burning cigarettes for example.
IQOS ILUMA is designed to be used only with TEREA sticks. Do not use IQOS ILUMA and TEREA sticks with previous IQOS generations, as this may cause damage to your device.
What are the Main Components of a heat-not-burn device, such as an IQOS ILUMA™?
Each device in the IQOS ILUMA series features the SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM. Paired with the all-new TEREA tobacco sticks designed specifically for IQOS ILUMA, these bladeless devices heat the tobacco within the stick without burning it, to give an altogether enhanced experience and with no cleaning necessary.
What are TEREA™ Tobacco Sticks Made From?
The superior quality tobaccos selected for TEREA are subject to rigorous checks. The crops are traced to the farm level, and a series of comprehensive controls maintain the highest standards of leaf quality. During the blending phase, each batch is analysed every 10 minutes. Only tobaccos that pass every step of our process are of a sufficiently high standard and are then used in TEREA tobacco sticks.
How Much Nicotine is in Each TEREA Tobacco Stick?
Each TEREA tobacco stick, regardless of the flavour you choose, contains 0.5mg of nicotine, which is comparable to the amount of nicotine found in cigarettes. Although nicotine is an addictive substance, it is the levels of chemicals and smoke associated with burning cigarette sticks that are the most harmful. TEREA sticks contain far lower levels of chemicals, do not produce smoke or ash, and leave less lingering smell than cigarettes*. When using IQOS ILUMA, the tobacco vapor dissipates more quickly than cigarette smoke.**

Can You Use One TEREA Stick Twice?
No, a TEREA tobacco stick is designed for single use.
How Much Tar does an IQOS ILUMA produce?
IQOS ILUMA does not produce “tar”. Tar is the residue from smoke after a cigarette is burned. IQOS ILUMA does not produce tar because it heats tobacco instead of burning it. It generates an aerosol residue that is fundamentally different from tar created when using combusting cigarettes so using TEREA provides significantly lower levels of harmful chemicals.*

Are IQOS Heated Tobacco Products Better Than Cigarettes?
Yes, IQOS is a better choice than continued smoking, while, at the same time, offers a real tobacco taste with no cigarette smoke, smell or ash. Switching completely to IQOS ILUMA is less harmful than continuing to smoke. IQOS ILUMA emits on average 95% lower levels of harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes*.
