How does my IQOS work?

While there are some similarities between IQOS, vapes and e-cigarettes, there are crucial differences. Get to know what IQOS is, and how it works.

What is IQOS?

IQOS is a smoke-free alternative to continued cigarette smoking. Unlike e-cigarettes or vapes, which convert liquid nicotine into a vapor, with IQOS you simply place a specially made heat stick into the holder, where a ceramic (yes really) blade carefully heats the tobacco up to 350°C. It has sophisticated technology to ensure the heat is controlled, and when used it generates a flavourful nicotine-containing vapor, giving the user the true taste of tobacco and nicotine without combustion. The experience lasts for about 6 minutes, or the equivalent of 14 puffs of a traditional cigarette.

Why that temperature you may ask? It’s because our scientists have discovered that’s the optimum temperature to deliver the taste and flavour smokers want, but without burning the tobacco.

Not burning the tobacco is really important. That’s because when tobacco is burnt (by lighting a cigarette) it gets as hot as 600°C. But if you heat the tobacco to a lower level in IQOS it emits 95% less harmful chemicals compared to cigarettes*, making it better for you than continued smoking.

What are the benefits of IQOS?

Many adult smokers continue to smoke traditional cigarettes every year. There are well documented health risks associated with that, but they face many other issues too. There’s the unavoidable linger of cigarette smoke on the body and clothes – something that can last for a long period after the smoker has finished their last cigarette. This can be an issue for those in relationships with a partner who is a non-smoker, or those who have friends that are non-smokers. With IQOS being completely smoke-free, an IQOS user would not have to worry about this happening.

IQOS is battery powered and rechargeable, so can be used on the go.

Charging IQOS for the first time

Chances are you’re no stranger to charging the multitude of devices you carry around with you all day long – from your tablet to your laptop, phone and even your e-reader – it’s the way we live in the 21st century. That said, the charging needs of each of our essential devices varies, which is why we have put together these tips to make sure your IQOS is always properly charged and ready to use. Once you have unboxed your new IQOS you will need to charge it up to full battery power by plugging the pocket charger into the power adaptor. Then simply slide the holder into the pocket charger, close the door and the charging process will commence. You will know your device is charging as the lights on the side of the unit will flash in succession while charging is taking place. Once fully charged the lights will stop flashing and remain solid white. The IQOS FAQ section on the IQOS website is a source of comprehensive information on charging your device and if you still need guidance you can book a demo with a dedicated IQOS coach or at one of the IQOS kiosks nationwide.

How to charge your IQOS

Charing your IQOS holder couldn’t be easier. In the case of IQOS 2.4 Plus and IQOS 3, the holder needs to be placed in the pocket charger and recharged after each use. When fully charged the battery will contain sufficient charge for you to enjoy 20 HEETS. You will know your IQOS is ready for your next HEETS experience once the single light on the holder stops flashing.

How long does it take IQOS to charge?

In the case of IQOS 2.4 Plus and IQOS 3, the charging process for the holder takes 4 minutes (IQOS 2.4 Plus) and 3.5 minutes (IQOS 3). To charge up the pocket charger from zero battery to full power on both these devices takes approximately 90 minutes. In the case of the IQOS 3 Multi, 10 back-to-back IQOS experiences can be enjoyed before the unit needs to be charged (for about 90 minutes) before its back to full battery power. You can also refer to the instruction card in your IQOS box for easy-to-follow instructions.

How to tell when your IQOS is fully charged

To check the battery status of your IQOS 2.4 Plus or IQOS 3 device simply tap the pocket charger button. The white light will indicate the level of charge remaining in the charger. After 20 uses the pocket charger should be plugged into the power adaptor to be charged up. For IQOS Multi you can check the levels of remaining battery power by tapping the power button on the side of the unit. The light on the bottom of the unit alongside the USB C port will indicate how much charge remains in the device.

How long does the IQOS battery last?

The battery in both the IQOS 2.4 Plus and IQOS 3 pocket chargers take 90 minutes to charge from zero battery life to full power. IQOS Multi, an all-in-one unit, has been designed to accommodate 10 consecutive HEETS experiences before the unit needs to be recharged, a process that takes some 90 minutes.
