How does switching to IQOS affect your health?
Unlike cigarettes, IQOS does not burn tobacco and can potentially reduce the risk of smoking-related diseases compared to smoking, making it a better choice for adult smokers than continuing to use cigarettes.
The levels of emissions of harmful and potentially harmful chemicals is significantly lower in IQOS than in cigarette smoke. IQOS is however not risk free. It contains nicotine and is addictive.
How does IQOS heated tobacco work?
IQOS heating systems have three parts. A heated tobacco unit, known as HEETS or tobacco sticks, a holder, and a charger. The tobacco stick slots into the top of the holder and at the press of a button it is warmed-up in seconds to release a tobacco vapor, which contains an average of over 95% lower levels of harmful chemicals than cigarette smoke*. Each tobacco stick lasts for about 6 minutes or 14 puffs, like a cigarette – and what’s more, the IQOS battery can be recharged after use so you can use the same holder up to 10’000 times. To charge the holder, simply slide it into the pocket charger and close the door – the charging process takes about three and a half minutes.
What are the other benefits of using IQOS?
Smokers’ breath is one of the complaints that smokers have of smoking cigarettes. Smokers who switch to IQOS say that there is less unpleasant feeling and aftertaste left in their mouth compared to after finishing smoking a cigarette. Heated tobacco products use solid tobacco leaves, so you can still taste the flavour of tobacco. The temperature is electronically controlled so the tobacco doesn't burn and the taste is consistent. Fine particles find their way into carpets and onto floors and hot ashes can burn holes in clothing and upholstery. Ash is produced because cigarettes burn at temperatures more than 600 degrees centigrade generating smoke and ash when combustion takes place. IQOS, on the other hand, heats tobacco, releasing the true taste of heated tobacco, and does not burn it at all so no smoke or ash is produced in the process.
Thanks to years of technological research, IQOS has been diligently designed to also ensure a high electronic safety standard and enjoyment. At the heart of the product is a glass-coated blade made of ceramic and incorporating gold and platinum tracks. An advanced electronics system carefully controls the temperature of the IQOS device to ensure there is no combustion, and the holder will turn itself off if it starts to overheat.
Say hello to new routines with IQOS
Each IQOS kit comes with a mechanical cleaner as well as a small pack of alcohol-infused cleaning sticks. It is recommended that you clean the device daily or at least after each pack of 20 HEETS using the mechanical cleaner to prevent tobacco sediment produced during the IQOS experience from settling at the base of the blade. A build-up of sediment can negatively impact your IQOS experience and cause the device to become too hot during use.
IQOS safety in other countries
Many countries have different regulations on the use of heated tobacco products and IQOS is not available in every country. Some countries restrict importation and use of electronic cigarettes, and although IQOS is not an electronic cigarette, but a heated tobacco product, you need to be careful when you travel. Countries such as Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan don’t allow the use heated tobacco products and in some cases, you could be presented a fine or even arrested. So before leaving on vacation, make sure to double check the destination laws around entering with tobacco products to make sure you are fully informed.
